As a designer I would constantly have a backlog of images I would get around to them 'someday'. When I first found text-to-image generation online in 2021, it was not quite ready to match those ideas. Now, the machines can certainly match, or out-match, with their own interpretation.This felt like alchemy - like discovering the secret shortcut or having a team of assistants - I could get those ideas into the real world in minutes.But, I had just moved from hours making images by hand to hours of experimentation with prompts, re-arranging words and testing everything multiple times. I tried on more styles than if I were in Pretty Woman. Unless you're happy with random results, prompts need to be honed. Then, the results need to be curated. This is where you, the designer, apply your knowledge and eye.And so here I present a new workflow for you to try:
